hi all. iv been browsing the forum for quite some time now. finally pulled the trigger to sign up. I purchased a 1980 kz1000ltd a few years back for 400$. just recently started working on it again, got some new coils. carb kits. the bike seems to run real good. please let me know any information about the bike at all. . I would like to know what carbs are on it. if the exhaust is stock. and anything else anyone wants to tell me. it is not stock paint. I purchased a manual to work on the unit and it seems to be a life saver. but im sure theres good information the manual doesn't tell me. also I know theres different models . is this one the b4?. thanks to all that look

Welcome. Nice machine. Besides the carbs, you need to check the valve adjustments and do routine maintenance as well.

I believe the bike came with Mikuni VM 28SS carbs. To my ameture, untrained eyeballs, that's what yours look like.
Here is some additional information. www.sudco.com/Catalog37Digital/files/ass...sic-html/page16.html

What do you want to know about them?

How did you buy carburetor kits without knowing what you have?

Looks like the stock pipes, they should be stamped, ( JARDINE ) on the rear hangers, the carbs look like the stock 28 pumpers, your side covers are NOT from a 1979 B3 or 1980 B4, they look like they are from a 1977 or 1978, the badges should look like these on the side covers
Pete

the carb kits did come with my bike when I picked it up. I got a few odds and ends with it and they where in the box so I used them. I just wanted to know about them if I ever needed to order any parts for them. I didn't know if they where 26 or 28. so the side covers are not original? They are from a older kz? I wonder why someone swapped them out. the pipes are stamped jardine. thanks for the replies guys!

The side covers were probably lost from blowing off at high speed, which will happen if you have old gromets, they get hard & cracked & wont hold the covers on at high speed, ...you can carefully drill a small hole in 1 or 2 of the tabs, & use a hitch pin or cotter pin to help keep them from blowing off

I hate it when that happens. I lost one and turned around to get it when some guy ran over it on purpose. Big grin on his face. In my terrible 20's, I would have chased him down and made him look like my cover.
