Back after a long spell
18 Jun 2015 23:37 - 18 Jun 2015 23:43
Howdy all. My name's Chris. I've been off the board for a long time but recently got my old high school bike back (KZ200) after 28 years of being stored. I'm in the process of repairing the damage that the Oklahoma humidity has done to her. She's missing a few pieces too but nothing that eBay can't fix. It's good to have a KZ again.

Welcome back! Glad to hear that you are bringing it back!
I to am recently back after a long time.
I to am recently back after a long time.
So the old Rocker gets out his bike to make a ton before he takes his leave. Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner
just like it used to be. And as he flies --- tears in his eyes ---
his wind-whipped words echo the final take and he hits the trunk road doing around 120 with no room left to brake.

Well after much cleaning and elbow grease my KZ is looking better. The engine is a no go though. Trans bearings are rough and I found a whole lotta metal chips and shavings everywhere. So I opted to buy a 1980 LTD 250 engine off eBay and install it.

Finally running again! The attached pic shows no spark plug cap but this was right before I added new one and put carb back on.

Here's a list of stuff I had to buy/fix/do to get her going again:
Replace engine
Replace gas cap gasket
Replace fuel petcock
New tires, tubes, and rim strips
New fork seals, sliders, and oil
New battery
New bulbs for indicator lights
Grease all cables
Disassemble front caliper to unstick and clean
Clean and repack steering head
Clean out gas tank
Clean and unstick rear brake cam so rear brakes work
Cleaned up 28 years of grime from sitting
Check ALL the electrical connections and clean
Buy replacement muffler, gasket, and the stuff to bolt it to the head
Buy replacement side covers
Replacement brake lever
Still have to regrease the wheel bearings and somehow crack open the tach and speedo to relube those too.
I had to get creative to replace some of the old parts because stuff like the carb to airbox connector is as rare as hen's teeth. I used a piece of new radiator hose. I also had to use a piece of hose to center the carb in the intake boot. The boot that comes with the 250 engine is several mm larger for the I.D. than the carb outlet O.D.
