So, I have no bike, and am looking for my first. Fell in love with a77 kz550 I saw on Craigslist, and now I know what I'm looking for. Figured I would come to a dedicated site for info/might get lucky with someone selling.

Welcome to KZR! Lots of great folk here to answer questions. Hope about a bit more information. Have you ever had a motorcycle before? If note do you know anyone with one? What are your intentions with the bike. Around town commuter? Highway travel? Extended trips? You may want something a bit bigger if you intend to do weekend road trips. I like big CC bikes and have no idea what the 550-750s are capable of. I'm sure some other guys will chime in.

Is joke, no? Kawasaki didn't start making the KZ550 models until 1980. Ed

I bought a KZ 550 to see if I still had the gonads to ride again after the wreck. Got it for $500. Great bike, lighter than the Z1, the power curve was like it just not enough gear to do the 4/5 car passes. I had no doubt it would make the 400 mile trip to see my mother. Too bad I wasn't talking to her and the rest of the "Family". That would have to wait until I got Bossie back on the road a year later. I should have kept it. One for Jetting to the store and the other to blow off jerks and long hauls. BTW, They didn't like my riding up on the Z1 and my Harley Davidson black leather jacket made in CHINA. That was in 87.

Ed: That was a mispressed button on my part, I meant 650, thanks for catching that!

Kow-a-holic: I have ridden a motorcycle once before, when I was 13 I took my dads Honda CB350 for a joyride and totaled it. That's my extent of riding an actual bike. I was really into restoring Puch mopeds from the 70's until mine were stolen, and decided to face my fear of riding. As for knowing people, I have a couple friends with R1's, but I wouldn't want to test drive those. Not only do I not like those bikes, but I wouldn't be willing to get on something that powerful for at least a year of riding. Goals for riding, commuting, minor highway use, and no long weekenders.

swest: No, no pics. Guy specifically asked me to not take pictures for some reason. I know it wasn't stolen because I ran the tag after I left and it was registered to him at that address. I just thought it was really weird.

Although I do know this: it had been repainted unless those bikes came in a candy purple at some point.

he was asking eight, but I had haggled him down to 700. Left his house after driving two hours to go see him, he sold it before I was 30 minutes away.

Ah, so it is a 1977 KZ650! That's the best darn bike ever made! And no, I do not have a biased opinion just because I have owned my 1977 KZ650 for 38 years.

Seriously, they are really nice bikes. Ed

Crap. Look on eBay. Maybe get a KZ 900/1000 or something.
