Hello from Calgary
25 Aug 2014 12:22 - 24 May 2015 21:10
Hello everybody!
I have just picked up a 1982 KZ750H from a friend of the family, it's been sitting in a garage for many years but it is now mine to bring back to life. It ran when it was parked but it hasn't even been moved in 7 years. It's very dusty in the pictures but I've brought it home in the back of a truck and am currently working on tearing down the carbs to clean them out and cleaning out the fuel tank. After that I'm just waiting for oil filters to show up in the mail so I can get the black sludge out of the engine and I'll start on rebuilding the brakes as they are just full of orange and brown chunks instead of brake fluid. There are some other leaks to take care of but hopefully I'll have it up and running in a couple weeks and on the road in the spring next year, or earlier if the weather holds.

Hey there zero10 - didn't realise that you recently acquired a KZ750 - welcome! Thanks for your detailed improvements to my draft sidestand safety circuit. You and Lou have helped with refining the basic design! Good luck with your resto - look forward to some progress info/pics, Bill.

Time for a long overdue update to this thread!
After spending the winter going through parts diagrams and saving up funds I put in a big order from Z1 and a couple orders through some local suppliers to pick up everything this bike needed. I then replaced the following (and I know I've forgotten a few things):
Battery
Front and rear tires
Front and rear wheel bearings
Steering bearings
Rear shocks
Fork seals
Tach output O-rings
Rear brake pads
Seat cover
Main fuse box
Drive chain
Grips
I went through and thoroughly serviced / rebuilt the following:
Fuel petcock
Forks
Speedometer drive
Swing arm bearings
Speedometer / Tachometer cables
Clutch cable
Clutch release mechanism
Carburetors
And after spending about 10 hours cleaning the caked on sawdust and some other general tidying up I have finally gotten the bike through an out-of-province inspection and gotten it registered and insured, and have put just over 100km on it.
I've attached some in-progress and completed pictures
Seat cover on:

Starting to go back together:

Nice work you did in bringing it back, I have a 1980 version, and it is my favorite of the bikes I own.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.
