Hey guys, ive been snooping around the forum for a couple months after purchasing my first motorcycle in august: a 1977 kz650b. After spending what seemed like way to much time and effort repairing electrical issues which i was never able to get completely sorted, i found a 78' 650C on craigs for $200 in wichita kansas about 2 hours from topeka where i live. i called my uncle (the family bonneville guru) and we loaded the trailer and went down and picked her up. Luckily it had no wiring issues so i was able to simply swap over my mikuni vm's from the other 650 and do basic maint and she's on the road. Its the only vehicle ive ever owned with less than 100k's on it, she's only got 15k. Not only that i got BRAND NEW tires for her and i have simply fallen in love with the wind. heres a little glory shot from this morning for ya guys.

Welcome aboard! Wow! It even has original paint (take good care of that as it is becoming more and more rare!). Here's some info (see link below) you may find helpful. Ed

Thankyou kz65ed I had assumed those were all Phillips #2 screws. I have castrol synth 10w40 in the bike now. What specific oil should I ask for when I change? Bike has 15k and clutch seems good through gears and high revs after adjustment. Also carbs have 105 main jets with factory air box, would that be ok for a Mac or jerker 4into1?

I would dump the Castrol before it causes clutch problems. Any oil that is marked "JASO-MA" on the bottle will work. If the oil is intended for use in engines with wet clutches it will have that certification. If JASO-MA is not on the bottle I would not use it. I like fully synthetic oil, so I use Mobil-1 Racing 4T (see link below); Pep Boys carries it. Do not use regular Mobil-1 car oil. There are plenty of JASO-MA compliant oils out there; a lot of folks use Shell Rotella; if you decide to use it be sure to get the type with JASO_MA on the bottle as I believe (but not positive) they make certain Rotella oils that are not compliant. Alrighty looks like I'll be stopping at the parts store on the way home from work for some oil.. Any advice on the carb jetting for the 4 into 1?

Wow- 2 people with cycles in Kansas! LOL. I'm 140 miles north of you. That's a nice 650! I would look for spare parts on Ebay- you never know what you'll trip over.

As far as the oil goes- I converted my bikes from dino oil to synthetic and they all started having minor leakages. Obviously, they were all changed back to dino. As far as the jetting change goes- I'd try 110's. Enjoy the "new" cycle!
