Fresh from Auburn, WA - First KZ was created by Twilightoptics
Just picked up a KZ650 circa 1977. It's in fair shape I think and the price was quite right! It turns over, haven't gotten it running yet. First order of business is to clean the slight surface rust in the tank and verify the carbs are clean. I bought it from a co-worker who said he had it running a few days ago and thought one of the needle/seats was sticking.

It's my first KZ, and second bike.

Looks like a great forum here! Glad I found it!

Welcome aboard! The bike looks great! If that stock exhaust system is really as nice as it appears in the photo treat it with tender loving care and don't clean it with anything stronger than Windex. That system is unique to the 1977 KZ650 and is very scarce in good condition. There were minor changes in 1978. Here's some general info you may find helpful. Ed

Welcome to the Forum. You look to have a survivor there. Ed is right about the exhausts. I have one of these and can tell you they love to be ridden. Carbs will need attention as you know. I would go over with basic maintenance. Pay attention to the front brake master cylinder and caliper if they have not been rebuilt in recent times. Enjoy your new to you ride! B)

Thanks everyone. The exhaust is a little rougher than the picture shows. Looks like a bit of battery acid damage on one side, and the bottoms are a little beat up. I'll rock it though!

Definitely need to pull the carbs and clean. One of them is overflowing out the vent tube when the fuel is turned on, tapping the bowl made no change. Starter sounds a little rough too. Should be a way fun project!
