new 1980 kz 750 alabama
29 Apr 2013 03:31
I picked my 1980 kz750 ltd up for $600 with 13,xxx miles on it.
I got it home and started to clean the carbs but to my surprise they where already spotless.
i'm waiting for payday to order all the body parts and pieces to get this thing on the road asap.
my intentions are to shorten the back end so that the tail piece end is resting on the tail bar piping and not hanging over, Im making it a one seater and have plans to modify a back seat piece to fit snuggly on the pushed up tail cowl.
I will stick with the original blinkers though, i cant get away from the retro look of them
also changed the oil and no metal shards where to be found so the insides seem to be good, still have yet to crank but pay day will be new battery day as well.

the first image is actually the craiglist posting picture, the guy I bought it from took it.
It was only $600 as is, he does custom bike stuff for a living and this was a bike he didnt have time for.
it was originally intended for his website creator, Im glad it didnt come with a tank or seat its kinda fun figuring out what to do with it and make it my own.
I will be ordering a 1982 KZ750E tank that just need paint and a gas cap (in my luck I got a box full of spare parts with a gas cap that works with the original key and kawasaki side logos in it. :silly: :woohoo:

im in irondale, I go up to the space center every now and then, its really my favorite park in alabama other than oak mountain state park
thanks for the welcome, this is my first big cc bike and it's quite exciting to build. Im used to enduros and smaller sized motors but they just where not doing it for me so i decided to sell a few things to get this bike. I feel like it get's a little more respect on the road than a nubby tire Chinese enduro

searching through this forum just on google searches brought me to a page with this bike on it
and it started the itch for that tank, right now all the gpz750 tanks are out of my current bike budget so im settling for the 82 kz750E tank
I really like the direction they went with that bike and in my own way its going to be somewhat similar.

Be sure to get a factory service manual and go through all the regular service items. It will serve you well to get the bike running properly and all the safety items taken care of before you start spending money on modifying it.

The guy I bought it from actually three in a service manual and it sure coming in handy,I'm missing the rear master cyclinder bleeder vaulve that screw I'm place on the top of housing and can't cant what diameter it is, every time I press on the rear brakes it squirts fluid out of the hole the vaulve is suppose to screw in.

Here is what your bike looks like stock.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.
