Well Svilen...without looking at the VIN (Vehicle Identification Numbers) located on the steering stem head, you might have a 1982 KZ750R1 (in Europe, a Z750R1). This is based strictly on the photo of the speedo/tach case...it is very specific to the 1982 model...although it also may be a 1983 Z750L3 model. The VIN will tell the true tale (please provide the number stamped in the steering head!). The willl be a test of your character and your ability to get parts into Bulgaria. :) It's a great bike...I also have one.

Wow!!
I have seen a lot of "basket cases"
but have never seen one that required such a large "basket" as this one.

Good luck with your project. It appears that you have a lot to occupy your time.

The tach case and oil cooler make it look kinda like an 83 L3.

You can download a manual here kz.mbsween.com/ courtesy of mbsween who is a member here.

Thank you people. jbw7300 - thanks for the pic.
When I asked the guy i bought the bike from - he said that he thinks it is a GPz750...is it possible ? What is the difference between the GPz and other KZ ? I'll tell you the number on the frame later today...maybe it is good to tell you the number of the engine also, because after such big modifications it is possible for the engine not to belong to this frame.
It is realy an adventure to find and buy parts in Bulgaria (especially when i work for $150 per month ;) but thats the way here...

Yes, you have an R1 model (1982 GPz750)...at least according to your frame VIN. However, your engine VIN is higher than expected for a 1982 motor. I suspect that the motor is from a newer GPz. The test will be for you to look at the motor and tell us if the clutch cable comes out of the engine on the left or right side (orient as if you are riding the bike). The 1982 and 1983 (and later) GPz750's had the clutch cable on different sides.

KZ750R1=GPz750? What is the difference between KZs and GPZ ? The clutch cable comes out from the right side of the engine...first registration of the bike is 1989 year - maybe it is GPz750 1989 ? I saw that there are many types of engines - H, E-1-2-3, A - what is mine exactely ? R1 as you said ?

The KZ designation was only used in North America (in Europe and the rest of the world, they were Z's). The KZ750R1 is a marketing name while the GPz750 is a model name, but KZ750R1 = GPz750. In Europe, your bike would have been called a Z750R1 or a Z750GP or a GPz750. Now, here's where it gets complicated, in 1983, Kawasaki dropped the KZ(GPz)750R line and replaced it with the ZX750A models (but still called them GPz750's. The ZX frame (chassis) was very different from the KZ(Z) frame (e.g. monoshocks, etc.) but the motors were only slightly different (one such difference being the clutch cable coming off the right side of the engine instead of the left side in the 1982 model). Kawasaki apparently used fundamentally the same motor in all the GPz750 line (whether it was a ZX or KZ) so it was possible to put a later model motor in an earlier model 750. Your motor is a later model ZX750 but what year I don't know...they are probably all similar. Another complicating factor is that Kawasaki stopped selling ZX750's in North America in 1985 but continued production and sales in the rest of the world until 1988. So, your motor could be anything from a 1983 through a 1988 year. I don't know about Bulgaria, but in parts of Europe, bikes are titled as to the year in which they are sold, not the year they are manufactured. So, for example, a new bike manufactured as a 1988 model that was not sold until 1989 would be registered as a 1989 model in England. In the US, all bikes are registered as the year model they were manufactured, not sold. So, an unsold new 1988 bike sold in 1989 would be registered as a 1988.

You are going to try and interpolate the date of production for your motor by looking at known ZX750 production dates/VINs and your VIN.
