What's up guys! From Chicago here, I plan on lurking for a while mostly and absorb info. I'm currently building a 79 kz400 goin for a monoshock ride and just am tryin to figure out not only the best way to do this but also the safest and to a smaller extent most cost effective. Any and all advice is more than welcome.

It's a shame someone cut off your frame. That might have come in handy for installing the rear suspension and seat. Ed

Just to set the record straight, I'm a custom and hot rod builder. That's not to imply that I am the foremost expert on anysubject at all. I mean that would just be ignorant. But I'm not scared to build something. Thanks again for your input though. Look forward to more of it.

It's just that I have seen the precision engineering of some of the "custom bike builders" who are under the delusion that that can create a better bike as long as they have some welding equipment. I'm not saying this is your approach, as that remains to be seen, but here is just one example of someone who cut a perfectly good frame and then fixed it with their welder. I would not want to ride on that puppy.

I understand that the look I'm going for isn't for everybody, but isn't that what its all about?

with what you have there a direct acting shock,(kinda like the buell blast i have/am currently molesting)would be a real simple solution to your build.

easy,clean....

the shocks from any mono shock bike that doesn't use linkage(,just has the shock mounted between the arm and the frame),should work tho.
it seems like there is a yamaha 600 street bike that has a direct acting shock that some folks have used.
i am not sure exactly which model tho sorry.

good luck with your project.
