Hello fellow KZ's
20 Sep 2012 16:09
Hello friends! Ive had my bike for a little over two months at this point. Its an 81 KZ1000. Since I bought it I have been turning it into a cafe/ fighter. She has the mono shock and GSXR rear wheel with swing arm and GSXR rearsets. I just picked up a 78 kz1000 rear fairing/ fender and im wondering how you guys have mounted them, if at all.
Please and thanks

Nothing to add but put up some pics! I'm mid-progress of a cafe/streetfighter KZ myself.

Well Im not shy to do some cutting and welding. Def had to do it to get the rear shock and arm in there. Right now Im just waiting on my axle and tire to show up. Also a few odds and ends. Does anyone have some pictures and measurements of the mounting system? It would be a great help if so.

I still wanted to retain the original seat, ole lady loves it. So I made some changes to the under half of the frame and also cut out some plastic from the tail itself. I will have a buddy of mine do some glass work for me so that it looks better and more "original" This is how she is sitting as of last night, pardon the garage. lol.

Finally got my sprocket in from Precision Metal Fab. She looks great and sturdy. Only problem is I beleive it needs to be larger then a 5/8 offset... Ill try and shim it out and shim the swing arm over some. Unless the cush drive and rear sprocket can be shaved. Any ideas friends?

if you would use the 80 and earlier model seat it still has the step(for momma) but has the bottom to match the tailpiece.
you can machine the cush drive down to gain some extra clearance.

Alright so I've been pondering the idea of the older style seat, and still looking. But while doing so I ran into another issue... Exhaust! I have what appears to be a two to one headers into turn outs. They clash with the style im going for. Id much rather do a single can or what now but dont want to spend tons to get a mac or kurker... So I started to look at diffrent ways of altering the exhaust I have.. Comeing up with nothing... any help guys!

Hey friends! I have done a bit more work on the bike. I have the tire on, brakes bled, exhaust temp finished and it looks sharp! I went down to the local shop to see if they had any decent take off tires. Found a nice one and as I was about to pay the lady I seen a set of pipes. I asked how much and she said take them! Turns out they are D&D carbon fiber pipes! For twenty bucks I walked out with a tire and pipes!!!
