Hello, Old lurker here, just joined so I can be a part of this great commuinty. I own a 77' KZ1000/900, meaning 903 engine and 1000 everything else. A friend of mine went through my bike a few years ago and had it running when we found out there was a bad idler allowing the cam chain to slap the cam cover. After sinking quite a bit of money into this bike and never getting to the point of riding and finding out the bad news it has sat in my garage for all that time. Lately I have had more time to do things at home (3-12 hr.days at work)so I've decided to start working on my bike again, in the hope that I can get it to running and riding condition. Some of the things that were done before I bought the bike are V&H 4-1 megaphone, dyna ignition,Old Accel coils, port job(my buddy said this was done better than his stage 2 Cope racing head and was amazed, chrome engine covers, K&N Z-bars(euck!),highway bars(double euck!)and some aftermarket bodywork(chin spoiler and headlight fairing). Some of the horrible things I've done to the bike will be exposed as I start a thread for it and document my teardown and build. Thank You for your time and have a great weekend!

Welcome to the asylum!

Looks like you have a nice base to start from. Take your time and enjoy your wrenching as your riding time will be that much more enjoyable.

Nate

Nates vintage bike axiom: Riding is the reward for time spent wrenching.
Murphys corollary: Wrenching is the result of time spent riding.

It is a labor of love. At least you have a real bike to work on instead of a Harley; Welcome to the sit.

Am addicted to Z1's and kz 900's have an el camino, fly rc helicoptors and am strung out on horsepower.

Welcome man!

Harley Harley made of tin, ride them out and push them in!
Harley Harley buy the best, ride a mile and push the rest!

Do you know what the similarity is between a Harley and a man's dog?
They spend 1/2 their life in the back of a pickup truck.

Do you know the difference between the model T and the Harley?
They dont make the model T anymore!

Harley Davidson, yesterdays bike at tomorrows prices!
Ok Im done!

Remember, don't work on your bike so much you never ride it.
