New to the KZ! was created by beewerks
Hello everyone! I just bought a 1981 KZ750 tonight that doesn't run, yet. This is my second motorcycle as I'm looking for a bit of a project bike. I haven't brought it home yet so I can't say much about it yet. Supposedly there is some type of ignition problem with it. I payed $100 bucks for it so hopefully it wasn't a terrible mistake. It's been sitting for almost 2 years in a garage. I can't wait to get started on it!

Welcome! Start by stripping and cleaning the carbs and fit a new battery - will probably be what's needed to get it running and is nonetheless a sensible thing to do.

Thanks! Is there a write-up somewhere on here that I could refer to while I'm doing it? I have never pulled apart a carb, but with four on this bike, I think I'll get some practice in. ;)

Hello, beewerks, and WELCOME to KZr! :cheer:

Here are some links to helpful carb info:

Click > www.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/Mikuni_B...Rebuild_Tutorial.pdf

Click > www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm

Would also search KZr's FILEBASE for additional articles about CV carbs, and much more.

It's not possible to make a financial mistake by only spending $100 on a KZ750. If you can't put it back together, it's worth more than that for parts.

BTW welcome to KZR! Do post some pictures when you get her home safe.

Thanks for the links! I'm still clearing out a bit of space in the garage to make room for her. I'll post up pics when she arrives. :woohoo:

Hey guys, I just got the new (to me) 750 home! I put a charger on the battery last night and all the lights come on when I turn the key. The starter even cranks. :woohoo: I put a bit of oil inside each cylinder first and manually turned the engine over first before doing anything else. I'm going to buy a new battery today and then see if I have spark, if I do then I'll see if I can get it kinda running, if not, then it's carb tear-down time. :S

Thanks! I'm curious, lots of sites I visit talk about the 750 E1/E2/H1/H2. What do those letters and numbers mean? How can I figure out what I've got?

The E2 is the normal 1981 KZ750; the H2 is the 1981 KZ750 LTD. Assuming your bike is model year 1981 it looks like it is a KZ750-E2. Take a look at your bike's VIN; it may have an "E2" in it. Ed
