Hi, New rider from the UK
27 Nov 2010 09:27
Hi,
I've just bought a unusual bike for the UK and was hoping some of you might be able to tell me abit more about it!
Its serial plate is HK not kz but the bike is basically the same as a kz250 single cylinder model, its also very similar to the UK and Euro z250 but unlike the euro and international kz 250s it has drum brakes spoked wheels and road bike styling!
see what you make of it;

You have a puzzler there...the bike does resemble early 1980's era and one model in particular...the 1980-1981 Z250-B1/B2...which was spoke wheels and drum brakes (front and rear)...but they were KZ lineage. What are the first letters of your frame VIN?

The serial no. Has HK as the first two letters!
The other thing my bike has cdi electronic ignition but earlier models seemed to have points systems!
The only refrence to the serial no. I could find was on models sold in china by "yellow river Kawasaki" a company that started making bikes in the early 80s and were either a part of Kawasaki japan or were a company who bought the rights to make them, like what Honda did with cg125 and beretta did with Taurus!
The website under the name of wanch.com/cn has some pictures of a bike that looks a lot like mine!
That's as far as I,ve got with researching it!
At any measure a very rare bike in the west and maybe a tad bit of a collectors item!
I'm thinking of restoring it, but I bought it to turn it into a sprint style bike!

I think you have solved your own mystery...it may be a Chinese Kawasaki...just goes to prove we are pretty focused on this site on Japan and Nebraska.

KH was a designation for the two stroke bikes in the US and maybe maybe other countries.
HK on the other hand could be a Chinese made designation for a four stroke.
I was thinking some one may have put a four stroke motor in a two stroke frame but the body work looks like KZ rather than KH so I would lean towards the Chinese theory.
Let us know if you find out for sure, its interesting to learn more about these old bikes.

I don't know what it is but I really like the styling. It looks a little like a royal enfield or something. Welcome to KZrider.
