My Uncle's KZ750E - Found still in crate

Greetings, wanting to introduce myself. Last year I found a 1981 KZ750E still in the original crate from Kawasaki. It was located in a shipping wharehouse in Hobart Tazmania. My uncle had bought the bike while living in Hobart and had it directly shipped to him. It was placed in storage in 1982, and had not been disturbed in 27 years. My Uncle died, I went to Australia from my home in AZ to deal with some of his estate matters.... including outstanding storage fees for a few months.

I opened the crate, was extremely excited to find this bike. I took me about six months to have a crate built around the original crate, have it fumigated, and shipped from Hobart via Melbourne to LA then Arizona where I live. I went through quite a process bringing it in through customs, it is a UK version so was never US conforming. I have a clear title and registration on it now.

I had the bike assembled, it is absolutely show room new! It is even running on the original battery...just added acid.

I have put just over 1100 miles on this time machine am enjoying it tremendously.

The bike ended up being given to me from the estate, I paid the costs of shipping etc...... ended up being about $2500 all in all.

Thought about keeping it in the crate, knew when I assembled it that I was making a decision to hang onto it. A great bike to ride, with a great story, get stopped and asked about it alot.

Thanks!

Gosh that thing is beautiful. :woohoo:

No way i could bring myself to ride it.

I'd drain it, spray some oil in the cylinders... Turn the engine 2.5 turns every year... Put it in a big plexiglass display case... toss out my TV... and put it front and center in the living room.

If anything qualifies as a museum piece, it's that bike.

:)

BTW, isn't this like the daydream we all have, everytime we look at our own bike and find a spec of rust?

I'd say $2500 extremly well spent. If she was mine I'd run it too, did you happen to change the skins on it....not sure if I'd trust 30 year old meats. Very nice 750 :)

What an amazing discovery. I love it! I second what M357.5 says about the tires. If those are the original tires, then I would be very suspect of them failing. I personally wouldn't take the risk of running them. Thanks for posting.
