Hey, This '81 KZ650 CRS is my first bike! was created by Pacificmonarch
Hi,
I just got a old 1981 KZ650 CRS as my first bike. It's currently not in running condition. Hopefully I can get it started. The guy I got the bike from told me that I had to rebuild the Carb. I hope it's not too hard. I am an automotive mechanic so hopefully I can use some of my knowledge. I didn't know there was a huge KZ650 following. I just wanted to get any kind of bike so that I could get some experience, but seems like I got some thing good. Thanks for having this cool site!

Welcome.
All the KZs are great bikes. I have a special place in my heart for the 650, as I've had mine since '84.
Have fun on yours and ride safely.
And yes, give us some pictures. ;) B)

Hey, I'll send you pics as soon as I'm near the bike. It's currently at my girlfriend's house. I can wait to work on this bike. If seems like good bike to start riding/working on. I also heard that the motor is bullet proof. I'm so glad I have this bike!

I've heard that bulletproof remark many times. When I got my SR650 it had bad oil in it and looked like the night sky when you looked at it in the sunlight, but the cylinders where smooth and straight up, no wear marks or scratches and the cams are perfect, everything is perfect. I change the oil more often now, to cut down on wear and soon to change it to 20w 50 when I get warm mornings

I tried loading some pictures but seems like the file is too big. I load some pics after I modify them.

good pick on a reliable bike, but 650 is more than i would be comfortable handing to a beginner.

125, 250, 305, maybe even a 440/454, but 650 is a true midsize bike and has enough power to get you into trouble.

if i were you, i would take a motorcycle safety course where they usually let you practice for a few days with smaller bikes. just to get the feel of motorcycles. it's much easier to recover after miscalculating your balance point on a 300lb bike than on a 450 or 500lb bike. just my 2 cents.

i just picked up a 305 because it's been 10 years since i have ridden and i wouldn't trust myself with a midsize before i rode for a while on a smaller bike.

As stated, the 650 does have enough powr to get you into trouble. On the flip side, it also has enough power to get you out of trouble too. Unlike modern sport bikes, though, the 650's power is very manageable and broad.

I hadn't ridden in 13 years when I bought my 650 SR three years ago. I was apprehensive and after I got it finished two years ago, I took the MSF course. It helped a lot and I was able to unlearn a couple of bad habits and learn a number of new ones. Since taking the course riding has been a joy.

Welcome aboard. BTW, the bike is a CSR and I have been accused of CRS a number of times. :S

Thas MSF course is the shiznit. I went from riding dirt bikes as a kid and teenager to my 900 15 years later. That course is worth every penny and opens your eyes to safety items that you never would have considered. I'm going to head back this summer for the refresher course.
Good stuff.
