WOW!!! Your workmanship on that balsa wood Stearman looks outstanding. I would not even attempt building something like that. Way beyond my skill level. That is almost like building a real airplane with each individual bulkhead. You got the hardest part done in my book.

I remember the odor of the dope you use to seal the paper covering. That stuff will get you higher than a kite!!!! I say make some time and finish it. I would be afraid to fly it after I finished it. It really sucks when something you spend hours building than watch it hit the ground and shatter into a bunch of itty-bitty pieces!!!!

I like to find older RC Nitro trucks and customize them with period correct aftermarket parts. I enjoy the search and hunting for the parts. I rebuild the engines, add custom items, run them to break-in without breaking them... put them in storage mode and find another to do... on nice summer days I will pull one off the shelve and run them to keep them functional. Here are a few

Finished up my latest addition to my nostalgia builds. The Revell 1958 release of their White Mobilegas tanker truck. This kit was a nightmare from the very first time I opened the box. NOT one part fit together properly. EVERY piece had to be massaged or reworked in one way or another. I had to walk away from it numerous times during the build. This is the first time since I returned to the hobby that I had to buy a second kit because I screwed up so bad in trying to put the cab together!!!! With the help of a handful of Valiums, I did finally get everything to go together!!!!!

Seriously cool tanks, Stearman and I love the Mobilgas truck and that rc car is really wicked....you guys are awesome......BJ58 don't worry about getting the paper on, watered down elmers to stick it on and then when that is dry hit it lightly with a plant mister/sprayer with water to gently get it wet and it will shrink nicely as it dries.

Anybody here that was around back in the heydays of slot car racing????

I was digging around in my storage area, I ran across a box with the last 1/24th scale slot cars I raced back in '71 or '72!!!!! Back in the late 60's and early 70's, I was racing competitively as many as 3 times a week back then. This was back when I was in grade and high school. Every penny I made on my paper route, cutting grass, and then later working at McDonalds went into supporting my slot car addiction!!!!

This was my very first form of organized competition and rules bending I was involved in!!!!!

To kool Doc
I was addicted to slot cars.
I used to run every weekend at the Groove in Royal Oak MI.
If you google search it you may find a article where the first time the
factory teams came to race us they said a beating with a baseball bat
would have been easier to take than the beating they took from us LOL
AS usual I owe you some more pictures ( I promise , but I have been
concentrating on my Back in the Day picture scanning fest.
Dave
PS Got a bunch of RC nitro and electric trucks and boats to post too

Still waiting to see photos of your train layout you have.

You are lucky about beating the touring pro racers. A bunch of us went up to a track in Hinsdale, Illinois for a National. All the Pros were there. John Curkas, Howie Ursaner, and the rest of the hot shoes. We didn't even qualify for the show!!!!! They all were in another league all together!!!! I think that was around '68 or '69. Right when they were all switching to the anglewinder chassis.

You know how the saying goes; "Idle hands are the devil's workshop."

On a more sincere and complimentary note, Very cool and fun looking hobbies. GAZZZ, you continue to amaze me with your attention to detail. You armored collection is just another fine example. Slot cars always fascinated me. As a kid I dabbled in models, even the pinewood derby as a scout. Those RC Trucks look like major fun. My Dad was big time RC airplane guy. He designed and built some of his own. I will show you one some day soon. Always wanted to get a good telescope. I used to body build for exercise and sanity escape from life's other stresses. I have also done my fair share of bicycle cycling. Just got my mountain bike refurbished and am looking forward to spinning up a few miles on trails.

Recently I have been engrossed in my garage addition project. It is pretty much together now. I am just putting on finishing touches. It was like a hobby for longer than I had imagined in the beginning. Feel free to view my thread in this section; "My Project Before My Bike Projects".
