Cleaning inside of gauges?

So after my 1000 decided to go swimming for a couple days earlier this year, my gauges have a bunch of silt and other crud on the faces behind the glass. I want to clean them but really don't want to completely disassemble them. I was thinking of dumping rubbing alcohol into them and trying to rinse them out that way.

Does anyone have suggestions?

If they are dirty like that from silty water submersion, you have more things to worry about then dirty glass!!
You'll need to peel the crimp rings off and completely disassemble them for proper cleaning.

I got the bike running and crankcases flushed. I'm in the process of cleaning and painting bits and pieces and this was a task on my to-do list.

Someone here on KZR used an automotive foaming spray cleaner. a product for the engine or wheels or something. or foaming glass cleaner. It was an old old topic, maybe by ambergrismoon or oldmanrock. or someone else. ???

The method might not be appropriate in this case. just throwing it out there...

I'd be really concerned about what the cleaner might do to the paint on the face of the gauge and on the needle. I'd also worry about all that extra moisture encouraging rust. I think disassembling and careful cleaning are called for in this case.

Ended up disassembling the tachometer today. Cleaned the insides, glass, face, etc. Also, sanded the outer case and masked off and sprayed it with some new gloss black paint as it was looking shabby anyways. Will take some assembled pics when the gauges are all back together.
