...Nice pix! But, I swear, I have yet to see 2 750 GPz's that look a like as far as the stripes go. Color wise, width wise, even placement. I wish I had something I could trust to go by.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere's an ebay ad for a '82 GpZ750 shop manual. It has a picture on the front that might help show the stripe placement. If you put the cursor on the picture it magnifies. Ed

here is a picture of my 1982 R1 looks a bit darker than those other pictures. I think mine have never been repainted.

I think you are right...there was a fair amount of 'flexibility' in what emerged from the factory...so it is difficult to be dogmatic about what is technically 'correct' for restorations. I guess I should have stated that the color matches in my earlier post come very close to how my R1 appears....others may be slightly different. :)

Whenever I'm sticking graphics on, I always get a reference form something original and period kawasaki. Here I used an original dealer info sheet for the graphics placement. I put them on wet so they can be repositioned. Have a drink, put some music on... this part of the job I need to get 'into the zone'.

I think I got this just right, happy with that. Image Works graphics seem pretty good, I'd go back to them if the colours or shapes are wrong.

Dodgy graphics placement is the most common way of goofing up a paintjob, often done by a painter that hasn't bothered checking the positioning. On the GPz and Lawsons it looks even worse when it is off.

...Thanks, Ed. Placement isn't really a problem. The dark stripe is the problem. I actually have a manual with the bike on it.

...Everything was cleared today, so I'm excited. I'll have everything back next week. :)

...also remember this exact paint matching we expect today didn't exist then. Certainly for the 70's bike, even boxed NOS panels don't always match.

...Well, it's painted.

...Decided to go with a slightly lighter navy blue. Didn't like the fact that most people thought the dark stripe was black. Anyway, I'm quite happy with it. A bit bright out for pix today, especially with a phone camera. But, here it is.

...Thanks. I'm happy with the way it turned out. Just need to detail the engine and replace the fuel bowls. Then, onto the next project.

...It's all in fun. :)
