What would be the safest way to remove the paint fron the side covers and the rear fender of my old 78 kz ? The paint is full of cracks and needs to be removed.

Just sand it down.

DO NOT use paint stripper, it will soften/damage the plastic. Been there, done that! Took forever to repair.

Start with 120 and be careful when you get down to plastic. Move up to 220, 320, 400 prime then wet sand the 400. Should be good.

Perhaps brake fluid to remove paint from the side covers --

Thanks for the ideas guys. Has anyone soda blasted the plastic parts ? Wonder if the soda blasting process would damage the plastic

I had ggod luck using walnut shells and a media blaster. Took three layers of paint off and didn't hurt the plastic.

Sure it looks OK now, but wait until I really make it pretty, with some chrome and paint and some new tires and grips and the wiring. Don't forget the gearing, and the LED's and, and, and....

All day ordeal, and the soda wouldn't touch the stickers (stripes and Police 1000 sticker).
I broke out the heat gun and pulled the decals off, then hit it with 220 grit on the vibro sander.
Where the soda blasting does come in handy is getting into little nooks & crannies, and it does a nice surface prep for paint.

Well scratch the soda blasting the panels. I actually despise body work. I have some half used glass bead that may fit the bill for removing the paint off the panels. When I get home in a couple of weeks I'll try it and report back.
