Sorry to steal a previous headline. Here's a little project I've been working on for six months off and on. It's a 1981 GPz 1100 which I've converted from injection to BS34's and going with the ELR look. Striping and clear comes next.

After

Very nice GPZ Harold. Also like the CJ in the background. More pics of both okay?

Thanks. I would like some guidance on putting my stripes on. Seems like everyone does it different. I am struggling with the positioning. Using a lasr level there seems to be no way to align the tank and tail stripes without it looking wierd. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I followed your thread as I was doing the prep work on mine. It looks awesome. I knew what it was before reading the thread as I used to have a 550, however a GPz purchased new in 1981. You just don't see those around at all. Wish I had it back.

How did you decide on the stipe layout? I sat and studied it for hours and just can decide.

I hope it's faster,,, but frankly I've never had it on the road. It was a POS when I got it. It cost me $500 if that tells you anything??

turpehar, I did a search for ELR's, printed some pics off and did it ;)

You are right by saying the stripes don't line up well from the fairing, tank and tail piece but they are all like that.

Nice job. What did you do with the petcock to clear the carbs. I have an 81 gpz1100 tank and the petcock hits on the top corner of the carb. The 82 gpz1100 i have has the petcock located farther forward and it clears everthing.

Thanks
I ran into the same thing. I bought a Pingel 6311-ch high flow petcock. I plugged the return r/side hole with a metric oli pan bolt. Then I marked the location where I wanted the new petcock and cut the nipple from it's original location and welded it into the new location. Then plugged the original hole. it worked out nice. Not shown in the pic but I've had it connected.

keep in contact and maybe we can help each other out. The next issue I'm working on mechanically is getting the starter working. This bike sat for 8 years before I started working on it. I hear that a starter clutch that sits can get gummed up and stop working. The starter motor works, but the clutch never engages.

Show us some pics of your current status??
