Is it possible to separate the chrome plated steel section of the rear hub from the rest of the hub?  It would be great if the 2 pieces can be cleaned, plated etc. separate from each other.
This may be an old subject but my initial search didn't turn up anything.

The KZ1000A rear hub is manufactured the same way, and probably is the same hub despite having different part numbers for the assembly., that might broaden your search. Its likely the steel flange is pressed on the aluminum hub, it may be possible to press it off. If you do, make some kind of mark so you can realign the flange with the hub as the lace pattern will be off otherwise.

IMHO, it seems to be inviting catastrophe. I have this hub on my KZ1000. When I rebuilt my wheels I just powdercoated the entire hub. You barely see it behind the disk.

Thanks- I was mostly just curious. I have a decent wheel on the bike now. So many rear wheels were saved by chain fling-off oil film! The hub I'm looking at is from my parts bike. I was thinking about building another wheel at some point with a 2.50 rim to allow a wider tire. If I do I was thinking  PC the entire hub like you did.
