Disc lock??

I recently put back on the road a 1982 1000J and I’m using it as my second bike.
This morning, I brang my disc lock to secure the J but I realised that the disc is not meant for such a lock (no carrier and drilled holes too small).
Is there an easy way to use this kind of lock ?

Will it fit the rear rotor?
The disk lock I use for the KZ only fits the rear.

Got a picture of yours?

I've got two, an old one for the KZ, and a newer Abus one for the ZRX.

The large Kryptonite lock fits the front wheel, going around the front fork lowers.

On the XS650 forum someone suggested using a gun lock as a MC disk lock. Hell, they keep giving me the stupid things so they might as well get some use...

Mine is an old school Kryptonite; been using it for many years on all my bikes.
I tried on the rear disc but it looks to be the same exact unit than the front ones so it does not fit either (bike pics are not mine).
It would fit on the rear sprocket/chain but it will be quite messy so, no.
In the 80's, I was using the long Kryptonite you pictured when riding on my (then new) KZ1100 but today, I consider it quite bothersome to carry around (and I don't have it anymore).

From the pictures I saw on Google, looks like it could work. I would have prefered to use the one I already have though but I think I will need larger holes in the discs to do so and I don't think it's a good idea to enlarge the current holes.
Why do you write they are giving you some? Don't they need to be purchased?

When you buy a handgun there is usually a gun lock included. Also, some police departments will hand them out for free. Our tax dollars at work.
It won't stop a determined thief but few things will...
 

Seconding the statement about determined thieves - nothing will protect your bike 100%, but you can make it very irritating to steal.

My main idea is to keep the cylinder of whichever lock facing the tightest space possible - harder to pick it. Even with a disc lock, though, a couple strong people could just take it.

Yup! I know it won't stop a determined thief. I'm looking for a way to stop the less determined ones and also for my peace of mind.
I'll surely buy another disc lock that will fit on all the KZ I now own.

Here's what I use.  The teeth on the Medeco key are cut at an angle making it very difficult to pick.  Anyone skilled enough to pick this lock could afford to buy a much newer bike than mine.  Of course a couple very strong guys might be able to carry the bike away assuming they could walk away carrying 500 pounds.  Ed

I have used the  large kryptonite lock to secure the front forks and wheel together. It was a easy carry because I have the  lock mount which secures to the rear shock upper mount .
BUT   REMEMBER
Locks keep honest people  honest
A determined  pro will have your bike in seconds 
Bolt cutters, 4 big guys and a van. Lift and put inside and gone 
That's why I never  , ever take my bike where I cant watch it.

When I was living in San Francisco the thieves there were some of the most blatant I have ever seen. One time I was walking down the street at like 8pm and from about a block away I saw these two guys start cutting something with a cordless angle grinder. It was loud and sparks were flying. Before I could put together what was happening they were riding away on two bicycles they just stole. Start to finish in about 30 seconds. There is no lock in the world that will stop an angle grinder and somebody with zero fear.

I highly recommend you get a curly cord that goes up to your throttle from the lock. Its easy to forget the lock is on there -  its an easy reminder. Watched my buddy dump his bike and bend the crap out of his rotor trying to take off with the lock still on.

 

Just a note. Don't show photos of your keys.
Keep the bitting hidden.
People can cut keys using the photos as a template or make a quick bump key.
I've spent too many hours watching the Lock Picking Lawyer. As well as hanging out with locksmiths.
