Are your tires stock size?
When I got my KZ305, I felt it was leaning too far. I removed the kick stand and inspected bolt and hole. All was well. I too felt there was too much slop in the pivot, but decided it is suppose to be there. The bike did have an over sized rear tire. Since then, I replaced both front and rear tires. Rear went from 130/90-16 to 120/90-16. It leans slightly less now, and engine is running about 200 rpm faster at 60 mph.

The PO had just put new tires on the bike when I bought it this past October. I never bothered to check what size they were.. just assumed they were stock. You got my curiosity up. Will check that tomorrow too.

Here's a couple pics of the side stand. So what do you all think?

Pictures are distorted like looking through glasses that are to strong.

My 1978 Ltd 1000 leaned to much, but not as much as your appears to. I swapped in a Kz900 side stand to straighten it up. I’ll measure both and let see what yours measures out at.

EDIT: Added photos.

I made sure the level and the yard stick were parallel and the top of the stand was sitting against the level square. The Kz900 measured 11-5/16” and the Ltd was about 3/4” less at 10-9/16”

One form of test rider entertainment at the plant was doing sidestand slides on the sealed concrete floors. I remember that not working out so well a time or two when the sidestand bracket had only been tack welded to the frame!

Again hard to tell but it looks like the side stand might be getting pulled to far forward by the spring, the stop on the frame might have been ground to allow more lean. Looking at the bike from a side view, the side stand should only be about, in clock relationships 6:15 on the big hand. Yours appears to be rotated clockwise too far.

Or a pivot bolt that is to small could cause the same over rotation

It appears my stand is like your stand on the left. About 10.25 to the heel. I think I'll try straightening out the bend and see what that does. After heating red hot, how hard would this be to bend? And should it be allowed to cool slowly or quenched?

I have no advice on how easy/hard it will be to straighten. But you should let it cool naturally.
