KZ400 fuel tank cap identification was created by fricks
Hi, I am hoping someone can help me identify the correct fuel cap I need for my tank.

When I purchased the tank, the seller told me it is from a 1980 KZ400 K4 BJ and it has possibly come from a European bike if that helps.

A lot of the caps I see online operate on a hinge which my tank does not have.

I've attached some photos of the opening in the tank. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!

I don't know what fuel cap you would need. The 79 KZ400-B2 has a fuel cap without a hinge, and from the cross-reference at Partzilla about a dozen or so other models used the same one. That style is typically hard to find. There's one on EB that includes an ignition switch & seat lock, but it's expensive. I would check the various KZ400 models at partzilla, then head over to EB. be sure to look at EB pics of fuel tanks.

EB item number: 254819033183. pricy set mentioned above.
EB item number: 264951740697. completed listing. Thailand.

ps: paint looks like a pretty color. did you use a polyurethane clear coat?

Something like this I think: www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-kz400b2-1979-cana...#pageproductModelfit

That's not your exact model of KZ400 but the 'model fit' list contains Euro bikes.

Thank you! Apologies, what is "EB"? I am not 100% sure about the clear coat, I haven't painted it myself. I assumed it may have been a factory colour?

EB = ebay. The one at cmsnl is the same as the EB items. The completed listing out of Thailand is black but otherwise should fit the same. They look the same to my eye.

You're welcome. It's the kind that my KZ400 tanks (US models) had/have, so it should work. If you can find one. :)

Does anyone have one of these round caps that they could take some measurements from? I am looking at aftermarket options so hoping I can find something close in size! Thank you

I checked the spares department (aka the basement) and found a KZ400 tank with a round gas cap. If I can find the key I'll pull the cap and take some measurements.

Right, so I was able to find the key *and* the calipers to take some measurements, so here we go.

overall diameter = 71mm

the black O-ring and the metal bit under it = 55mm

the round piece that goes into the tank - the outcropping at the 12:00 position = 34.5mm

the round piece that goes into the tank + the outcropping = 38mm

the two locking pieces when they're out = 41.5mm

the central piece stamped 'Made in Japan' = 26mm

Hope that helps :)
