Hole in dash on Z1 was created by Robb2018
I'm surprised a search didn't turn up something on this subject. Does anyone know the purpose of the hole between the tach and speedo on the Z1 and is there suppose to be a rubber grommet in the hole?

Hole above switch is "key holder", no grommet so you can "hold your keys"

Strange... Now I'm wondering exactly how that's supposed to work. Is it so the keys don't go bouncing around and scratching up the panel? So it's like... when the Z1 key is in the ignition, one of the other keys dangling from your keychain is supposed to go in the hole? One of those things that's not important but just provokes thought. Really doesn't make a lot of sense.

There's a rubber grommet that goes in the hole available but I won't pay what they're asking for it. STUPID idea anyway.

I can only imagine what they'd charge for that. You might be better having one custom made out of solid gold.

There was a rubber bung which fitted that had a slot in it to slot a key in. Always missing now leaving a unsightly hole so I made a plug to cover it.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!

Great idea. How did you cut that perfect slot?

Its not my idea, thats a direct copy from an original of what is supposed to be in there. There is a part number, but I dont know it offhand. From what I gather it was a desler prep item that was overlooked.

Ask around on Z1 owners forums to find one.

I like your Lowes plug for a buck and a half. No need to cut a slot
