Yep that is a GPZ1100 tank it should fit your J frame.

It will fit....if i cut the rubber mounting studs down...they are too long right now. Not sure if i want to hack up the frame, but i will look at it. What is the other tank...the black one? I thought it was a KZ1100 tank?

An '81 GPz1100 tank will not fit because the bungs for the fuel lines are to close to the carbs.
The '82 will since the bungs are moved or at least they are on my '81 GPz1100.

I'd guess the black tank to be an 83 or 84 KZ750 tank. They had a color scheme like that, and were essentially an 82 GPz 750 without the 1/4 fairing.

I'd be curious to know how that fits on the J model frame.

Don't think that tank is a 750 tank. The rear mount on that is the GPZ1100 mount. The 750 mkunt has a bolt hole and is shaped different.

The Black tank with the yellow/orange strips looks like KZ1000J3 1983 fuel tank.
Part nr 510015238H8
It was only the 1000 that had that type of fastning tab at the rear of the tank.
That tank is basically the same as the 1000R tank.

Red tank is GPZ1100B and is narrower at the mounts than the J ( as is the ELR tank )
Black tank is J and wider at the mounts than GPZ11 or ELR.
J frame had longer posts on the frame for the rubber tank mounts and the common fix when building an ELR rep is to shorten the J's frame tank posts to fit a GPZ or ELR tank.
The fuel tap position on the B tank will probably interfere with the J carbs but I think you can just turn the tap 90 degrees for it to clear.
If not it's not a hard job to reposition the taps mount if you are or know a competent welder.

Thanks for this, and thanks to all! i appreciate the help. I think the black tank is the same as an ELR tank, from what i have heard here and seen...and thanks for the info on the mounting studs! I bought this bike cheaply, i have spent a bunch of time getting the 36mm RS carbs to run right and now it is running very strong. It was built as a vintage racebike but never run that way, the builder said it was there was lots of money spent on it. Looking forward to working on my replica project, i have all the bodywork. I know where there are some wheels, or i can repaint these. Any recommendations for some remote reservoir shocks?
