Triple tree custom work was created by benhurmx
HI,

I am trying to swap the triple tree stem of a kz900 with a zx9r 96, and i need a reference to a good motorcycle machinist, or anybody in this forum who could help me with that. I know that some of you guys have done wonderful jobs and have the expertise and the machinery to do it.

Thanks.

You will need to press out the stem from the kz example lower tree and press it into the ZX9 tree normally a bushing will need to be made I recommend taping a small fine grub screw through there to for good measure.

And bolt it on your done go ride.

Im not sure but I put zx7 forks on my 750 and the ID of the zx7 stem was the same as the OD of the 750 stem. You may want to check that out. I just cut the stem off and inserted my stem. The steering stops take and cut them off and Use large allen headed bolts tapped into the lower tree. Reference "Pens z1" here. The gauges you'll probably have to get creative and make a bracket. He Irishwill also details that some in Pens z1 thread. Although he made his own trees so it may be of no use.

I started into this once and realized my stem is welded to the lower tree - is this factory? How could you press it out? Grind off the welds?

Grind out the weld, be careful not to grind too much, and press it out.

some of the zx stems have a c clip in the bottom as well. my zx9 1996 had 1. i only found out when it forced its way out the bottom. no harm done though. u may be able to cut the zx stem off and just press the kz stem into it.then drill and bolt.B) if the hole isn't big enough , u can turn down the kz stem until it will fit. Simple , really.

here is my top tree. i just cut the KZ gauge tabs off and had them welded onto the ZX9 tree.

Thanks Mark for the Photos.Very nice job. What about the steering stops ? Was it difficult to find the right angle for the tabs ?
