Flasher replacement '76 KZ400

Understood and thank you again. Lastly I wasn't able to find the exact unit you posted a screen shot of on amazon and it appears they all have different wattage and amp ratings so I'd prefer to just buy the one you recommended, can you post a link to it or send it to me via PM?

Didn't realize you were from the UK, apparently not available in the US. But anything with those specs should work?

Indeed - look for at least 10amp/150watt rating and terminals marked "B" - "L" - "E" and follow the diagram I gave you

Ok so I think I did it right...and couldn't find a ring terminal so I just wrapped the ground wire around the bolt. Got it all plugged in and situated. Had the other two switched and it did nothing so I swapped them to where they are in the photo and got blinkers for days. Wanted to test it out despite it being a little chilly today so I took it out on some back roads and worked perfectly for about 10 mins until I asked for one blink too many apparently.  Blew the main fuse and died. Swapped in a new fuse and got to running, back home (without any blinkers). Any idea what I did wrong?

I don't think you have done anything wrong (as it is wired in the pictures is correct) and the flasher circuit doesn't draw enough current to blow the main fuse unless there is a "short circuit" fault.
Does it blow the fuse when indicating "left" or "right" ?

Remove all four bulbs and the turn signal warning light bulbs - disconnect the orange wire from the flasher relay - connect a voltmeter red lead to battery positive black lead to the disconnected orange wire from the flasher unit

it should read 0v - (anything else suggest a full or partial short) now operate the turn signal switch first left then right - what happened to the voltage reading ?

Not sure which side it's been flashing when it's died as it's only happened while riding so I've been a little distracted with finding a place to roll it so I don't crash, but the first time was a right turn to be sure, this most recent one may have been as well.  Will try the directions you mention but what is a 'turn signal warning light bulb'? Is that the one in the 'cluster'?

Yes it is the one in the cluster, you need all the bulbs removed to be able to identify an unwanted path to ground (with the bulbs in the voltmeter will see ground through the bulbs)

Thanks, will see if I can figure that out, but given it never blows when I'm running the original flasher, is it likely that there's actually a short somewhere?
