hi i have a standard z1r fuel tap its started to get tight when you turn the lever ,even with rubber grease ,its seems like its the white cone shape thing in the body ,i cut down a similar size spring and it made no difference it dose not leak its only 5 years old any thoughts thanks david

I seem to remember reading something here about "lapping" the white plastic cone with toothpaste ?

hi thanks wookie thats interesting i should say i dont use the e 10 fuel ill head for the toothpaste

Yep! It works for a while but they eventually stiffen up again.
Got twin taps on my daily Z1R and last did it about four years ago when it got that bad i needed a death grip or pliers to turn them on.
It's not that bad again yet and is stiffest on the first opening of the day. 
You have to be light and careful with the lapping though so as not to bottom out the cone in the tap body.

thanks for that zed the comment about it bottom out i guess thats what happens when they ware out and sink down and leak im not aware of any other z that use this type

I have not had one for the Z1r models apart, but have added a pic of one off of a 650.  It is my understanding that there is no part number for the plastic looking part, but would think one could be printed out of fuel resistant material.

KHI started using the nylon cone partway through the 1974 Z1A model run, as an improvement over the previous leaky design which had a metal barrel with a couple of O rings.  That cone worked pretty well (for example my 74 Z1A  never leaked fuel),  The nylon cone design continued for several years in all of the KZ models.

hi thanks to  the toophpaste tip its turns normaly  again now and yes gd 4now thats the cone and if any one does make some id be interested ,thanks scoty for the info on other models its used on
