I was just given this bike as a very cool project and it has no carburetors. Plans are to go through the engine maybe do the heads, but mostly just want to make it very rideable, I know it won’t be like fuel injection but my goal is to make it the least fussy as possible. What would be your recommendation for a set of carbs? I’ve seen the Murray 2 carb conversion? Is that any good or I was looking at the Mikuni Rs set with 4 carbs possibly? Any other recommendations I can look up to do some searching online about?

Thanks in advance
-Chris

I’d like to get something new if possible, unless I can get a set that’s been rebuilt like new I guess I just wouldn’t know where to go for those or how much they are

I’d go with the original carbs rejetted for better gas mileage. Keep the original main jet if you must have full throttle power.
I had the information on here somewhere with the changes I made but I’m unable to find it. It was in a purpose made topic.

What about the smooth bore vm29s that keep popping up in my searches?  Are they simpler than the cv carbs that come on these?

On a stock motor the CV carbs are better for altitude changes and gas mileage. Unless you're going for a big bore kit along with the HP mods you are better off with them.

Does anyone know where I can get a stock set of carburetors for this bike? Does anyone here sell rebuilt ones?

hey man - it seems like we are on the same path.  i have a 1995 kz1000p that im just getting into.  i replaced the stator and am now have it apart to replace the regulator/ rectifier (im using  Ricks -HotShot for both) since i have it taken apart this far,  im thinking i am going to rebuild the carbs but … i feel like you do - i dont want fussy.   im curious what you find out.

do your carbs need to be adjusted periodically?

does it take a while to warm up ?

Hey Chris, can you post some pics of your new/old bike.  Nice to see what folks get into on the forum...

A few Mikuni BS34 carbs (4-carb sets) show up as currently available.

If you guys check the parts for sale forum, you will see that I posted half a dozen different sets of fully rebuilt carbs for your bikes. (EDIT: thanks for the link Dave)  That said, as of a week or so now, I'm almost sold out now.  I rebuild carbs as a (beer $ making) hobby, and I've done tons of various KZ carbs.

Pretty much, all the BS34 type CV carbs are interchangeable.  Kawasaki installed them on 750/1000/1100 bikes, and the carb spacing is the same for all.  There are some differences in jetting, and there are some differences in the slides, but all can be made to work.

One problem you will find is that it's getting hard to find a good set of cores for a decent price.  If you have some already, I'd rebuild them.  I have O-ring kits if you are in need.  Or I can rebuild them for you.

If someone wanted a new set of carbs, I'd go straight for some RS34's.  They are way cheaper than VM29's these days, yet brand new.  VM29's are best used by guys looking to build a "period correct" hotrod.  They are great carbs, but a poor value otherwise.

I don’t have any carbs on my bike so you’d say rs34 would be the easiest as far as if I have to purchase a set?
