Got yet another variant in process now; these VM26's have fuel screws, no joining plate, brass choke plungers, and a vacuum nipple on #3 (I think.)  This set must be a little later than the other two sets previously posted.  I'll get the numbers later today.

Edit: posting before the edit time closes...

These carbs are code 102 5A.  1.5 slides.  These carbs were missing the needle jets, so if anyone has info about what other parts should be installed, I'll appreciate the info.

I look forward to the additional info you can provide. It was easier to find info from online parts lists in the past (more than 10 years ago) than it is today. I should of pulled more of it down back then.

Update posted.

BTW, to Bill and the mods, it's difficult to create a carb spec thread because we need edit access as more info becomes available.

Ed, I am not claiming this is correct but I do have some info that indicates that ID was stock on a 1978 1000 A2  and had a 5DL3 needle, an AO5 needle jet, main of A105R, pilot jet of 15,  a pilot screw, slide cutaway of 1.5.  Is this of any help or does your set have different internals?

Thanks for the info.

These carbs came without any jets, including the needle jet, so I can't verify anything there.  I have another set of carbs I've stripped for parts, so I'll check the numbers on the spares.  I do know the slides are 1.5's.

I've got the two completed sets on eBay, and some guy wrote to tell me that the set with fuel screws shouldn't have the top joining plate.  Is this true?  When Kawasaki made changes were they clear year to year switches?  Or did they also make running changes, that happen sometime during the year?

Ed, I have no idea regarding your question on the joining plate or if changes were made in a given  model year or only at different model years? There is another post asking just what this plate is for?  Again I have no idea, but would assume either someone at Kawasaki or at Mikuni felt there was a use or need for it. I will say that some parts list (both for the 650s and the 900/1000s do at times indicate a part# used for a range of frame or engine #s. So it would appear that at times there were changes made in a model year.

As an aside I am still pulling down parts list (for carbs) that I can find.  One of the issues I am running into is that frequently part #s only show the most recent # and not the older ones that may of been used. The Kawasaki site in the past used to show this info, but appears to no longer do so. Since most of the other online parts lists appear to be based upon those on the Kawasaki site the same issue appears to be present. It would appear that it will take me some time to make sense of the data I am gathering.

Please continue to provide the info you can on the carbs you are rebuilding.  Thanks

Nessism post=873604I've got the two completed sets on eBay, and some guy wrote to tell me that the set with fuel screws shouldn't have the top joining plate.  Is this true?  When Kawasaki made changes were they clear year to year switches?  Or did they also make running changes, that happen sometime during the year?

I have a set of VM26.  This set has the joining plate, fuel screws behind the bowl, and the left and right fuel input.  And no air screws.

Mine are stamped 299 over 01 on the body flange.

Looking at the diagrams for the 77 KZ1000-A1, the drawing shows the plate.  The text description for the plate reads "PLATE,CARB CONNECTIO | USE FOR 16001-299".
Part number 16001-299 is for the full assembly, and is listed as superseded by 16001-1024.
Part number 16001-1024 has the text "CARBURETOR ASSY | E/NO 1 012015"
Part number 16001-1025 is for the A2
Part number 16001-1023 is for the A2A

So if any of that is accurate, the plate was used on the '77 A1 but at some point the 299 carbs were revised/superseded by 1024, and lost the plate?

Also, the service manual says the A2 frame number started at 27501 so the "1-12015" range would be in the middle of the A1 production.

It' s a bit confusing that there is no mention of a part number for the later A1 bikes.  But actually the 299 should be the early A1, so I guess the 1024 comment should say they are for E/NO 012015 and up?

Also, the '76 KZ900 diagrams (A4 and LTD) both show they use air screws.

So a set with fuel screws and a brace must be early KZ1000?

I’m going to agree with DOHC, I have an original parts catalog dated July 1976 for the Kz1000 A1 and it shows the carb connection plate and in the carburetor parts area they have fuel pilot screws. So to my knowledge the 900 A4 and B1 had the connection plate and air pilots. The Kz1000 A1 had the connection plate and fuel pilots. I’m curious what would the 900 A5 have. Left over air pilots or new fuel pilots. I’ll do more research.
