Just curious what is in the boiling pot?  Water?  Or is it a combination of any chemicals?

Details in the videos.  Water with some lemon juice added.  I've used that before and it cleans well, it also turned the metal dark on the set I did.   

They look like new!  Is that throttle return spring installed in the groove on the bottom?

Photo suggests the spring is NOT in the groove.  Good eye!  I'll fix that!  And speaking of springs, I've often wondered which way the hook/loops are supposed to be oriented, on top and bottom points.  Please share if anyone knows.

Edit: These carbs are for sale, if anyone is interested, please PM me.  I've got another, very similar, set arriving today, so gotta make room...

 

FWIW. The parts manual show the spring with top hook open away from engine and bottom hook open towards engine.

Thanks for the info.  So obvious...why did I miss it?

The new set, just broke down, has air screws, and slightly different bodies and slide lift mechanism parts.  An earlier set I think.  They aren't pristine, like the set I posted yesterday, but a really nice project set nonetheless.  I'll post the numbers in a little while.  Maybe I should start a VM26 carb thread?  Describing the difference between the different sets?  Guys like you can help me fill in the blanks, because I'm not an expert on all the different varients.  

Hi Ed - Ness! Here is a win! On a set of old school, round slide 34mm Mikuni's. I just bought these, just because!? They looked cool! I used to run the popular 37.5 Mikuni super-pro carbs back with a 1260 & 1327. But these were spotless on the inside! I'm not a fan of the old floats that just slide up and down on pins, did not ever attempt float adjustments? These carbs work with a FBG 4 into 1 Lectron cable. I thought they would go with a 1197 high comp with Andrews 8X cam i'm working on.  I'm going to sell off soon. As an option to a stock 1015 engine. I just bored top case for the big liners.
Anyone ever use these old dirt bike carbs? With these style floats? Just curious. All carbs are getting expensive nowadays!

Those do look cool, but it's going to be tricky to reach those choke plungers.  Maybe just adding choke on the #4 cylinder will be good enough? 

Ed I would be interested in such a post regarding the differences between the vm26 carbs.  As I have posted in the past I started to gather some info on the vm26 and vm28 carbs in the past but lost interest at some point. I have much more info on the vm24 carbs than the larger ones. It would be interesting to learn the differences between the IDs and internal parts between them, and maybe info on which models they were used on.

I'm also interested.  It seems like there were many changes made to the VM26 over the years. 

Some folks here say certain VM26 are among them best kz carbs (early, with fuel screws?), while Wired George claims that the '79 VM26 pumpers are "essentially un-tunable."

It would be great to see all of the differences documented.

Yes I do have that one and this one as well which is much like it  But neither of them have any info about the ID stamped on any of the carbs or differences between internals as your notes show may or may not be what the tables show. Also have posts from here and other sites as well as some info from parts lists and supplier sites as well.
