I apologize for overlooking your post thats my fault. Yeah that seems to be about 90% of the problem. It's now running better than it ever has in my ownership.

It does have cv carburetors. I believe they are bs34's if I remember correctly. I had questioned whether the diaphragms were good a while ago but realized if they were bad, I'd have no top end and that's where it performs best. Like I said though it isn't running perfectly still though so ive got some playing around to do but overall is running so much better. Good thing too because I was getting pretty tired of tearing those carbs out even though in the grand scheme of things, they are pretty easy to get to.

I'd do the thumb test to see how well they're working. Place your thumb over the large opening in the back of the carb after you lift the slides. They should lower slowly. If there's a leak it will drop down quickly. Another thing if they are hard they won't allow enough fuel at any given throttle settings. CV's are great carbs when they work. Good on gas and tolerant of elevation changes. With modern fuel rubber gets hard and brittle.

The diaphragms on both are good and soft. My only reason to suspect that they were bad was because I didn't know much about how cv carbs work but did know that the diaphragms eventually go bad.
