New Petcock was created by xstreamcanadian
I made a purchase from speedmoto I think they are called. Its a plate and a screw in petcock. Its ok, but it doesnt screw in all the way and just looks like a future gas leak all the way around. Not to mention there is no screen on either the intake or the reserve, so i am wondering is there something better? Anyone have one they can part with for a mid 70s 650 tank? My SR tanks style wasnt for me so I opted for an earlier tank

Pingel from Z1E?

www.z1enterprises.com/pingel-petcock-pin...e-single-outlet.html

It's more money, but then again, it's a better petcock. Pingel has a solid reputation.

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThis would also work :

Tour Max #18-4358 44mm mounting made in Japan

Most dealers can order them plus they sell a replacement diaphragm separately. The knob is a lot smaller than the Kawasaki unit.

When using a mounting plate, you might need to widen the opening in the fuel tank a tad.
Warning: explosion hazard when modifying a fuel tank. after draining & airing out the tank, even a small amount of fumes can explode.

I went through this recently. Tank was well vented & flushed. I was concerned about having to flush the tank again after fitting the new petcock with a file. How am I gonna keep the debris out of the tank.

My smart aleck wife calmly says

Why don't you just hold the file backwards?

Well, to be fair, she isn't entirely wrong. If you hold the file backwards and file on the pull instead of the push, the filings will typically fall out. I'd suggest just rigging up a shop vac right at the hole as you're filing.

I keep seeing the round threaded petcock used but I have the long oval on my tank, its going on my 79 SR 650 as that tank is fugly so I am using a tank from an older kz650 parts bike. This looks like a winner, has anyone used it? I tried the kit that was recommended here that comes with a plate, and a round petcock, but that thing hangs down and to me looks like garbage. www.mikesxs.net/yamaha-xs650-petcock-non...447-24500-02-00.html

thoughts? I have a good working vacuum petcock that I rebuilt, it fits, so I may still use that, but I hear they suck? and Im not even sure where to connect the vacuum to.

I measured mine and it seems to be 45mm. the xs650 one is 46mm. and this one 44mm. I wonder if its better to go wider or skinny. I am guessing I can gentle shave a half mill either way to make it work

I cover the drill bit in dilectric grease, and then flush out several times with fuel. Also drilling upside down works.

A vacuum petcock works just fine as long as the rubber bits are replaced at the first signs of malfunction. Most manufacturers used them for decades. The vacuum line is usually connected to one of the nearby carb synchronizing ports.
