A rebuilt stock Kawasaki part is better than a chinese repop.

Problem is - I am not sure if mine is a "whole piece". Looks like someone already did something to it.

I see pictures of those show plastic gasket where diaphragm is. On mine - it's missing (or not needed??) - see how bolts protrude?

So, not sure if rebuild will work at all.

The rubber diaphragm is supposed to sit on a plastic frame. If you buy a Kawasaki replace diaphragm you get a new in the kit. If you buy any other back market rebuild kit, it's not included.
The secret of a successful rebuild is cleaning the petcock properly. I vapour blast them to make sure I get all oxide out.
You also need to remove the brass pipe that sits on the backside lid. There is a little "kex" in there, don't lose it but make sure you clean its seat. Use a ear tops with Autsol polish and polish it spanking clean.

Not specific to your bike I don’t think you disclose that but this is a breakdown of a typical vacuum pet cock. I don’t see any plactic spacer on the diaphragm side. It’s possible a previous owner replaced the screws. I agree with all other replies that it’s rebuild able. Nothing better than OEM

JB weld works great for securing the L shape outlet. JB weld stands up to gas and will not ever be effected by it even if used where gas is constantly there.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Mikaw might be right and some models might function without the plastic piece in between, I just don't see how. Looking at the parts fiche it looks like there is no plastic but the picture of the part has one

This is the picture is from the parts fiche for a KZ650H1, part nr 43028-1015.

In my world the plastic piece handles the vacuum's opening and closure of the petcock.

Thank you, I may have posted the wrong fishe. Based on the hex head bolts with lock washer fastening the diaphragm cover on vs the OP ‘s picture showing counter sunk cross heads, I stand corrected. Thank you. This would have been easier if we had the bike and year to give accurate information.

Last summer I had one of the brass pipes pull out of my petcock when I was taking the new very tight hoses off. After a few choice words I put red Lock Tite on the end of the pipe and gently tapped it with a nylon faced hammer back into the petcock. It's been fine ever since.
