RS38 Mikuni was created by Jerryvan
Hey all, I need some quick advice. I got a project kz1000b (79LTD) with vm26 and I can't tune them. I have an evaporating by the minute opportunity to buy a set of Mikuni RS 38 Series Carburetor cheap. Too much carb for a stock bike with pods and a no baffles exhaust? Next year or soon later I'll be probably putting a 1075 piston kit but not for a while

Ran a set of RS36's on my KZ1100, and was advised by fellow forum members they were too big. RS34's have been great, even considering the engine has since become an 1135 with a stock 84 bathtub head and ZX1100A camshafts.
I think RS36's would still be too big with the current engine setup.

No kidding, that's disappointing. I read on a supplier's website that 34's were too small for 1000cc and recommend for 750cc or less.

Cant just look at CCs alone. Need to look at target HP and application as well. 34s are probably a little to big for a stock KZ1000 engine but they will work.

Here's a thought. If its great deal, you could buy them and Im sure someone would jump on a trade for the 34s. I am currently running 38s on my 1327 motor and it works incredibly. Tom

With head choice you made, the bathtubs, did you compensate with higher compression pistons? I read you can loose 2 points due to the camber size?

That only applies if using the bathtub head on the earlier KZ903/1015cc kickstart motors.
The later J and GPZ non kickstart equipped all share the same 40cc volume combustion chambers ( the earlier KZ's are 36cc ).
