25 pilots and 130 main to big of jets for a 1000cc with 33mm
My z1r with an 1200cc pistons kit ported head cams and vm33 are running 25 pilots 135 mains

Have you tried raising the needle?
Also, do the VM carbs have pilot air jets in the bell mouth, like the RS series do?
I've been playing around with those jets, and have verified that going with a smaller size does enrich the pilot circuit, whereas the larger size leans it. The size increments are tiny, which permit finer tuning options unavailable on BS34 CV model the bike had previously. For me it has been strictly trial and error to find what feels right, though a dyno tune might really be the best way...perhaps next year after a new set of rings.
I enjoy watching you fiddle around with those carbs. Makes me feel ok knowing I'm not alone obsessing over the thing. :)

Besides, it really does make a difference!

Freed up the #4 carb but have to clean the rest.

I'll put some more miles on it and see if the plugs clean up more.

Took it up the road and back. Exhaust note is different and it seems to rev crisper. I'll take a ride tomorrow, check the plugs and post a clip of it taking off. Idle seems more stable too. B)
