Confused about correct Factory Service Manual

Ok wise sages, I need some help please!

I recently picked up a 1980 KZ1000 G1 Classic...the American fuel injected model. I'm having trouble finding the correct service manual for this bike. After doing some googling and forum searching I'm getting pretty confused.

When I search online I find the Service Manual Supplement, which is only about 30 pages.....where is the base service manual? I have also found an Assembly and Preparation manual, but this doesn't appear to be the base Service manual. Other models of KZ1000s show an Assembly and Preparation manual, a Service Manual, and a Service Manual Supplement.

Where's the Service Manual for the G1 Classic? I heard that the G1 Classic is basically a fuel injected LTD....does that mean I need to get the LTD B4 Service manual?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Does the supplement manual have you fuel injection info in it? I have one for my Z1 and have a Climer  that covers 1973-80. I only have it for the changes in models including the fuel injected ones.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI don't know what information any of the manuals have yet. What is confusing me is that I don't see a reference to a standard service manual for the G1 Classic anywhere. Just the supplement manual.

What about you guys? What manuals do you use to work on yours? Does your model have a Service manual, or just the supplement?

I see that there is a company in New Zealand that claims to have reproductions of manuals for several models, all wrapped in one book. Here's the link...

Has anyone tried this out? Any good?

I'll get shafted for this, but I always really liked the uk Haynes manuals. Based on the factory manual with assistance from Kawasaki uk, also with a good diagnostics section and lots of photos and parts diagrams. Also they are written more for the amateur without all the factory tools or a time served mechanic's background. Over the years I can honestly say I learnt more about car and bike engineering from Haynes than I ever did studying Engineering at university.

Then the factory manual plus supplements, followed by the Clymer. You really want all three - plus this forum.

The manual from NZ looks promising to me. You could try contacting Kawasaki USA & ask them; and they may even be able to provide a manual for a reasonable fee, assuming they still provide the service (I think they either scan or copy a manual & send a reproduced version).

I'd guess you'd need the base 77-79 KZ1000 chain drive manual (or 77-80 if there is such a thing), plus the 1000G supplement.

+1 on what Martin says...if no one posts today, I'll put the correct Kawasaki part numbers for the manuals tonight.

The manuals you need are:
KZ1000 Classic Supplement 99963-0035-01
KZ1000 Service Manual 99931-540-03

The Forward section in the Supplement specifies the above base manual and specifies which pages you should refer to in that manual to cover the KZ1000-G1 model. Note that pages in the Supplement may be jumbled in that they are stapled out of order (they are all there in mine but not sequential).

Awesome! This is exactly the information I need. I tried searching the forums first and didn't quite find the info here. Thank you very much for this!

Martin, I think I will try and contact Kawasaki as you've suggested. If they still offer this service, it would be the easiest way to go.

Thanks everyone for the assistance!

If you get a copied manual from Kawasaki USA, I don't know how good the quality will be --- my guess is not very good.
