Cranked the starter until the oil pressure light went out, and spun a few more after that.

I hope to fire her up before New Year's day if the current local West Michigan weather forecast holds true.

Fresh build 84 ZN1100 (low mile) engine:  Wiseco K1172 piston kit, ZX1100A camshafts, welded crankshaft (awesome Ebay find), ported head, APE components, etc.

Last February the crankshaft was listed on Ebay three times with okay side and end photos.
The one view provided opposite the rotor revealed some semblance of welding work though there was no mention of it in the description.
Repeated views of that photo convinced me to offer the only bid.

There's a little more history behind this crank...

🙂

I followed up with the seller who btw had no idea the crankshaft was welded!

But he did tell me that a long-ago deceased relative crashed the bike with the crankshaft installed during his first and only attempt to race it in the early 1990's.
Said the bike was then parked, and everything was sold over the years.

...

So I buy this old crank with it's essentially new cam chain, and new looking rotor still bolted to the end...

Something caused the spinning rotor to make contact with the stator, and the impact left a visible crack in the steel housing behind the magnet.
Metal from the rotor that was transferred to the crank taper was carefully removed with a hand file.
