Just a suggestion as I haven’t tried it. But a super thin smear of red rubber grease around the inside of the pad bore might fend off rust.

I did think about paint - might need to get the gun out again, or maybe just buy a rattle can so it's not always such a hassle... Normally I just go with grease as most of the problem areas are pivot points that need to be greased anyway, don't want to put grease anywhere near the pads though, not even a thin coat of the red stuff.

@ronnieV: Not sure which frame no. you mean, don't have one with 442 in it. Maybe the wrong thread?

Got my choke plungers back from zed1015 this week. Looks like excellent work, but they're still in the bags until the rest of the parts are back from the platers. Got some rubber glued to the instrument bracket, so the clocks are properly installed now. At some stage I'll have to take the tach off and swap out the base plate - the threads on it must have been pretty far gone and all it took to ruin them was just a little bit too much pressure from my heavy hands. Unless somebody has a good fix for external threads I'll be sending it off to get replaced (will cost $25 for the ring and $25 for installation - not too bad but still...).
EDIT: I think I'll just shorten the threads and screw on some extensions that replace the spacers and have an M5 thread on the end. Will get onto the lathe and then post some photos.

Installed the cams today - although it looks like I'll be moving them both one link forward on the cam chain tomorrow. I'll also need some larger shims - should all be in the 2.60-2.80mm range.

On another topic: can anyone with an original KZ1000A1 paint job measure the width of the stripes on the tank and tail? I've seen all sorts around and would like to get as close to stock as I can. Some photos/measurements for positioning the stripes would be great.

@ Calum.  My 77 KZ1000A1 has original body and paint. I will try to get a ruler app for my phone and take measurements and pics and post asap. If there is any other way to accurately take those measurements,(without an app), let me know.

That would be great, thanks. No hurry on the measurements - I still need to fix a dent in the tank and prep/prime the bodywork. It would be nice if I could order the masking tape in the next couple of weeks, though. So if you could check the width of the stripes sometime that would be a big help.

The ruler app was a fail and all I had was a tape measure, so I don't know if these will help. #1 the tail stripe and piece.#2 the tank stripe and side view. I'll try to get spacing measurements later.

Thanks for the photos! That should pretty much have me covered... now I just need the patience to take my time and make a good job of it.
