KZ1000A1 Spare Parts Project

I bet  alphalaser.de  did the pics and welding job!

I'm not sure who he gets to do the laser welding, but the photos and prepping/finishing are done by a local guy (ABP Racing). He mostly works on Supermoto and Enduro bikes but there's always quite a few z900 or z1000 heads lying around.

I  would love to see pics when it's finished.

After reading Mikaws latest posts on his A4 thread I though I should take another look at the crank. I guess I have some work to do - I was so busy looking at clearances and the state of the small ends that I totally overlooked this.

Yes, that sucks but Mikaw had a sucsess to remove the advancer locating pin. Show us your skills and do the same.

I also had the pleasure of removing a sheared pin about 2 months ago. Hole punch the center, use a 2mm drill bit on a slow drill speed, soon as the pin spins re punch the hohe, the metal is soft enough and will expand with the punch to become tight, repeat and repeat . Once the 2mm bit is done move up to a 3mm and same again, hole punch and drill. Takes a while but as soon as you get to 4mm or 5mm it should come out.

The more questionable part is, where to get a replacement locating pin and what it´s dimensions?

I broke one off and had a machinist pull the stub out and replace it.  I think he used an old drill bit but I've forgotten the diameter.

The locating pin is still available from KMC. The dimension is 4mm by 8mm.

Schnitz Racing also sources the timing pin.

In the end it was much ado about nothing. Gave the pin a whack with the centre punch, drilled into it with a 2mm bit. Didn't even get the tip of the drill bit in before it started spinning, then it just came straight out with a magnet.
I had a spare pin on the shelf from the 750 - they use the same split pin as the 1000A1.

 

 

 


Got the clutch assembled and polished the ignition housing and breather cover. The ignition housing needs some more work, I'll do that when I polish the sprocket cover.
