When riding at high speeds there is a vortex created where the pods are. That starves the carbs of air. (rich) Same with winds. I had duel pods and they looked cool. Miller talked me into putting my airbox back on. In the desert we have winds a lot and long stretches of roads thus high speeds.

It would act like it was running out of fuel.

If there is a strong side wind just right I get that effect not often but some times .... like its running out of fuel.... damn pods and when I had em open for years too .... but I still love em. :P

Had the same issue on my Z1, the fix was routing the carb bowl vent lines under the seat behind the side cover ending them in a short pvc tube so they did not get any wind effect. I think the wind was putting too much pressure in the bowls and not allowing the fuel into the bowls. What ever after several years now, have not had the issue any more. 29 smooth bores and pods.

My Bad.. I used a heater hose on the Z1 and a water hose on the LTD to put the vent lines in. To trouble shoot problem - when experiencing problem stop and remove vent lines from carb and retest over same road area at same direction to get same wind action.
I found that by going to store on way there the bike acted like it was running out of fuel, on the way back it was ok. removed lines at carbs, and made 2nd trip to store and back no problems. Put the lines back on and made third trip with same results as first trip. I then put longer lines on and routed them back under seat and behind the side cover and into a hollow tube (ie: heater hose/water hose). Retested and have since left them alone for years now. Did same mod to the LTD. I believe that the wind was pressurizing the float bowl and not allowing the fuel into bowl.

Forgot about this...I added bowl lines and on the 2 vent lines one day after having them open to the air for years and had this problem.... went home and took em off and things right away went back to normal...... need to route some on my over flow vents out of the air steam someday and may try this.
