No airbox, didn't come with one.

I'll keep an eye on the filter.

So took the bike out for its first ride and to nobody's surprise it's lean.
It start easy and idles fine, while riding it will run up until about 3500rpm then break up.
If I pull one click out on the choke it will run until 5500rpm before it breaks up and with the choke fully out it will run on up the rev range.

I have the tk27 carbs from an '84 on the bike right now with just a primary and a main jet. I also have a set of tk26's that came on the bike that was a 3 jet setup.
I need to research what was supposed to come on the tk27's as I could not see any markings on the main jets and don't know the history of those carbs.
I'll look but if anybody knows what was the stock jet sizes were on the '84 and '85 gpz550s using the tk27v carbs I'd love to know so I can figure out where I need to start

Edit
Looks like my main jets are 114's on the tk27's

And last night I figured out my timing advancer was frozen solid, could not get it to budge at all.
I put it in the ultrasonic cleaner for about 5 minutes with some warm simple green.
That got it freed up enought for me to take it apart, clean and lube it.
It was late and cold so I wasn't able to test ride it.
I hope to run it down the road tonight after work.

Why yes, yes it will.

It did, the test ride tonight went well. the bike ran strong enough for me to find out the clutch slips
I've got some springs on order, cheap and easy. I've got the friction disks on the shelf if I need them, I'll have the springs in a couple days.

I've also learned about the "pink wire" battery electrolyte level warning light and how to defeat it by tapping into a switched 12v lead.

I've got a lead on a fairing and windscreen here locally that I hope to pick up next week, I'll just need the brackets and I've got a rear brake cylinder rebuilt kit on the way. There's still plenty to do but it's a functioning bike now and I'm pleased with my purchase so far.

Update for those who care :cheer:
Clutch springs cured the slipping clutch, just like it did on my '81.
The rear brake cylinder rebuild kit solved the rear brake problem (imagine that)
I'm running the bike on a set of tk27 carbs off an 84 or 85 and lucked out on the jetting with the pods, this thing runs great idle to redline and has been a blast to ride around, I've got about 350 or so miles on it. I cleaned the tk26 carbs, the correct ones that came on the bike and it will run and ride but the jetting is so far off it stumbles bad at the big end, I'll put those on a shelf for the next one.

I found a fairing on ebay for $55 with windshield that I snagged up only to realize it's for a 750, I was able to get it fitted anyway with some cutting and tapping on the mounting brackets, looks ok for the most part. The paint was so bad on the fairing that I sanded it down and shot it with duplicolor Ford Cardinal red, many coats of clear and then wet sanded with 1500 grit and buffed it out. It turned out better than I had hoped.

I'm very happy with the bike that I have for the money that was spent, Here's a couple pics. The bad news is I'm out of space and cash so I won't be able to keep both bikes.

That's awesome. The color looks like a good match. Is the 750 fairing bigger, or just mount different? It seems to look fine.

It's deeper than the 550 fairing, so it sits closer to the bars, cutting the shoulder off the mount, threading the rod and using jam nuts allows enough adjustment.

I just picked up an 82 GPZ-550-H1
and it has TK carbs.
Just did a dynojet stage111 kit,

the secondary main jet not the needle main jet I need a set of them and need to know what size to use. who ever had the bike before me screwed them up bad...

partzilla number is 92063-1122. sudco rep says they are proprietary carbs and jets

who carries tk jets?
what is the stock size?
should i change the number with pods and exhaust with stage 111 kit?
