Picked up an old cop bike and parts from another this week. Apparently the PO has passed, one the C model, was inside a shed and another a 82 was left outside to return to nature.

1978 KZ1000 C1 frame number of 500041 or 43, cant remember at the moment. It was taken apart and the frame painted and this is when according to the story, he moved on and the parts were stacked up and put in a box where I found them for 50 bucks.

The box of parts had 3 complete carb racks and I see more carb bowls in the bottom in the box. When I get a chance I will dig them out and try to identify them. Bike is missing one hard case, both side covers that I can see. A Wire harness is there, pipes, windshield, all the cop stuff, seat, foot boards and lights appear to be there.

If anyone knows a link to club or has some info on the bikes specifics I would love to read up on it.

I have some pics of how I found it, and just recently cleaned up a few parts and started bolting it together and sorting out what is there and what isn't. Not having taken it a part, its like working a puzzle.

I cleaned it up a bit before I mounted it in the frame. I used wire brush and alumibrite to get corrosion off and then painted with high temp paint. Going to polish outside covers for contrast. Sprocket cover is halfway there.

Checked out the cop bike on your build thread! Lot of work on that one, everything needs restoration. You may have inspired me to tackle a motor I picked up last month. Old 76KZ900 drag motor given to me by the guy who raced it and it turned out I know the builder who told me what was in it. Here are a few pics of it.

Hows your build going now, you riding yet?

Wow, that Drag motor looks like it has potential. Nothing that a little elbow grease wont clean.
Regarding my project, I've been collecting parts (or as my wife calls it-HOARDING), but have been short on time.
I'm finishing my Business Degree and it practically eats all my weekends away.
I literally received my cylinders back from the shop two months ago, and have not been able to touch them. I have some free time coming up, so I will certainly post an update soon...

I am just about finished with a bike I got 6 years ago. I had time lapses with no work being done for as long as two years, so I know what you mean. Stuff comes up, This is a hobby and all the while rent needs to be paid, honey do's, your cars and trucks break down you name it.

Be nice if we could do nothing but work on projects, does not happen like that for most of us.

I ended up having to do a valve job. I had to cut the valves a bit on top but have it to specs with 2.50 shims on intake and 2.60 on the exhaust. Its always nice when you put it back together and it fires right up. Doesn't happen often enough! Only thing that I am going to fix in the near future is the rear master cylinder. Don't use rear brakes much but when you need them it can lower that temporary stress level.

Two weeks into riding and the motor starting making some noise. Sounded like cam chain so I picked one up on ebay and installed it. Then I drilled and tapped the end for a 6mm bolt and lock nut. Being the stock cam chain tensioner had the flat side, its own set and lock screw, I just set the tension device as called for in the book then tightened it manually according to instructions for the Ape tensioners. Set the lock bolt and two locking nuts now.

Sounds like it should now. Been a couple weeks and besides on hole still running a little rich and no rear brakes, I'm getting there.
