OK, on to the oil pump.

Was definitely locktited prior, was afraid I'd break a screw. Heated them up for a bit...

Presto:

[img

Measured those clearances - they were fine. Slighly worn over the spec of normal, halfway to the service limit. No problem.

[img

Dirty screen!

[img

Cleaned it :-)

[img

Chased those threads and wire-wheeled the screws of the residual locktite:

[img

Awaiting a gasket, and perhaps lapping of the gasket surface - is that the recommended treatment before reassembly Steve?

[img

Case bolts, freshly replated, waiting for my gaskets and seals, more patiently than I.

That's a early style pump. It's the good kind. I have one but it was too rusty. Take the gasket off gently and show a pic. That's the part I sanded with # 600 paper on a sheet of glass. My oil pressure is great, maybe too good.

OK lads, next question for some input - the clutch springs are at the service limit. Am replacing the fibers and will glass bead the steels before reassembly, and so these need replacement too. What's the consensus for replacement? OEM or something more robust? Recall that this is a 1075 or so, running Dyna ignition, and so mildly hot-rodded.

TIA for your thoughts.

I run stock and never had a clutch slip. I go through cables too fast though. Stiffer ones? I don't think so.

I still have my original clutch & springs in my 1980 LTD 1000, with a 1075 kit, RS 34s ported head & Dyna 2000, although I don't beat on my bikes like I used to when I was younger
most aftermarket clutches wont last as long as OEM clutches
I've heard Barnett clutches & springs are pretty good quality if you want an aftermarket

as for the bucket.
i would mic the o.d. of the bucket and measure the bore and find out which one doesn't measure out like the other buckets and bores.
then depending on what i found would determine my next step.
