Yep, that sure looks nice and tight to me. If you're in the mood to do a little more sleuthing, see if you can measure the gap under the top clamp, which is for all intents and purposes, the same as measuring the thickness of the nut I machined.

Are u sure u place the bigger bearing on the bottom and the small on top
If u have them backwards that may be the reason u have that gap.

Ya, I'm certain they are where they belong. The top bearing would not fit on the stem.

I tucked an oring below the bottom ring and now they're perfect. That was a great idea Steve,

Any updates?

Specifically the fork mods. Looking at tearing into my stockers soon.

Not much to report, I have been very busy, so the poor Z1 has been neglected mostly, The mods are of course finished, you saw the posts, were you looking for a riding impression?

You're going to need to lop the tops off those damper rods as I showed prior.

Thanks. Yes, was looking for a ride report.

RT calls for an emulator adapter, I believe it's just an aluminum cup. Did you mod the damper rods on purpose? I don't really like permanent modifications. It's my Dads bike and I pretty much preserved it so I'm trying to be as gentle as possible to make it a better rider.

What spring ratio did you go with? Do you know what stock is? I'm pretty good with modern MX suspension, just trying to get my head around the numbers. Might start with just springs and see where I'm at. Thanks again.

Also, you can experiment with different weight fork oils. Bel Ray makes fork oil ranging from 2.5w - 30w (see link below) and they can be mixed together to fine tune the forks. I've been using their 15w for many years and it works great. Ed

Yeah, you kind-of have to lot the tops off because that's where the oil flows. On Honda and Suzuki damper rods you simply drill out the existing holes and add 4 more way down on the rod, and so it is in theory reversible because you can reweld those holes, but who would?

I went with .90 kg springs, not sure what stock is.

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to start with just springs. If I want to go any further I'm going to source a set of spare forks or damper rods first.

I was just finishing up modifying a set of ZRX shocks and found a bad bladder, so I'm trying to source one of those now.
