Short answer is that it is a KZ900, not a Z1. That said, it might be worth money as there weren't but 200+ manufactured... but I'm not sure what the market is though. A standard KZ900 restored can be worth a fair amount...as with everything, there is a collector for just about anything.

The 76 was the first in the KZ series. Minor changes though and not as valuable as a Z1 but a good start for Mods.

Here in Holland, they are worth some money. Maybe around 4000 euro. A really nice z1 from 1973 are selling around 15.000 euro

Some call it marketing, I call it a dirty trick. I suspected they were selling off inventory before coming out with the 1015 model. Jim Irwin bought the KZ 900, I had my Z1b, Larry had his Z1a and Jim Maybry (our boss) had his 73 Z1. My 75 was just a little quicker than the other Z1's and the KZ was always behind. Not to be outdone Larry took his 74 to Exhibition Engineering, spent $1000 on a 1013 overbore and Kirker exhaust, plus had it dialed in. That did it. I can still remember the zzzzzzip! sound it made when he opened it up. He'd walk away from us. I've come close to that sound and am still trying to get there.

Funny......I dont ever remember anyone on a 900 beating me in my 1000A1. Then again i grow up drag racing and weight in at 145lb. :laugh: Both bike weight the same and maybe 2 hp different....Up to the driver.
Up untill 94 my friend 88 gsxr slingshot , 91 zx7 would take about 1/4 mile to caught up...then it was all over.

I went out to 1015 in 78. Was disappointed in the power gain. The 903 was quick, the 1015 was quicker and the stock KZ 1000's were easy to beat. 10.25/1 compression was the key. Yeah, it's always rider to rider.

What is a 900C? Does anyone have a photo?

I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.

It is a police model There are photos on line if you google it. My comments in my earlier post were based on opinions on the C model, not the A or B model...both of which can draw a fair amount of money.

As already mentioned, not a Z1 but anything KZ (900 or 1000) these days are getting harder and harder to find.
Over the years, I have passed on non titled/project KZ's that I now kick myself in the ass over in not obtaining.

Here in Phoenix, Police specials or screwed up beyond belief Bobber want-to-be builds is about it.

I now refer myself as "Old Man Dumb Ass Rock"....
