I found a parts bike that looks like it was been sitting a while and maybe outside. The bike looks rusty. My question is what do you think of the motor in a 1980 kz1000g Z1 good bad. I will take compression test what is a good reading for a KZ motor. Any thought on value and cost to rebuild thanks Andy.

That is the fuel injected version of the mkII motor, its a really stout bottem end to build off of.
Big pin crankshaft, extra bracing on cases, tougher trans.........

pretty sure a shaft drive tank won't fit without mods.
any of the 76-80 900/1000 kz,ltd,z1r,mk11 tanks should fit your frame.

if i am wrong somebody will chime in and correct me.

I am sure it is on this site somewhere I did a search, but did not find all information. My question is has anyone done a fuel injection conversion to carbs on the kz1000. I was looking for what parts and the average cost. Is the conversion good or bad any thought or insite would be great thanks Andy.

Its pretty simple just install the carbs whatever ignition you prefer, assuming of course it doesn't have ignition. :)

Bought this bike today it is in pretty rough shape, but all I needed was the motor, tank and seat. The seat pan is shot. Did compression test today. 122,125,122,125 1-4 cylinders. Sprayed some wd-40 in cylinders be test and kick it over a bunch of time. Thoughts on compression test. Anyone done carb conversion an help or in-site would be great.

Are you going for a beefy race setup or a daily driver? The 29mm's were an aftermarket setup and will run you well over $700 used. The 28's are a good candidate for a daily driver on a big 1 liter. I rock 26mm's re-jetted for pods and the kerker 4 into 1 on my z900 and can scoot and they aren't too bad on gas. I know, who cares about gas mileage on a hot rod?! But seriously, are you racing that thing? Economically...eh, 28's

Did you say your converting that engine to Carburated from Fuel Injection? If so, Im quite interested in why, as well as If your fuel injection set up is complete I will possibly trade you my VM 28 and my cylinder head for your fuel injection set-up and head...Just a thought I figured I would throw out there.
