Hey, Arnold. Is there any chance you'd be willing to share the mechanical model file you used to create this cover? I've been trying to think of an easy way to get accurate measurements for the mating holes and shaft centers, but it looks like you've already nailed it.

Anyone know if the "J" engine uses the same bolt hole and shaft locations as the 73-80 engines?

Actually, it would be cool to create a library of the hole and mating surface dimensions for all of the engine covers (clutch, generator, chain cover, etc). I'm sure we could find others who have measured and modeled these already.

Looks great Arnold!

DOHC - I recently ordered a cover from D&G and I noticed an extra hole that I didn't need and wasn't present on my PMFR cover. D&G said it is for the "J" model engines. With that, I'm assuming that the bolt holes are the same except for one ... or maybe all the same plus an extra for the J. The extra hole is just below the shift shaft. Here is a pic:

Yes Sir Leo....closer than ever :P

Considering the fly wheel cover has the identical hole pattern I would´nt be surprised if the clutch covers has to.

It looks like the D&G guard uses the holes for the transmission cover, while some (like Arnold's) use the chain cover mounting points.

I looked at my '80 and '78 engines, and the '80 MK2 looks more similar to the J model cover you posted than does the '78. The '78 Z1R definitely has a number of holes along the top and right side of the cover that look like they would not line up. I wonder how many of the holes in the transmission cover do line up between the Z1, MK2, and J.

Here are two pictures of my greasy bikes.
