the lucky thing is the TL stem fits the 650 frame and bearings are available off the shelf , i did make a small adjustment to the bottom yoke along the way but it turns out i didnt need to , i recessed the stem hole to give me a bit more length but after machining the yoke to size i had to push the stem back down and pin it

i had to make up some spacer tubes to fit inside the new yoke because the new yoke has a larger hole than the fork tops but everything tightens up nicely .

this is how it looked whaen i first fired it up , cb400 twin shock rear end and a different exhaust , with mounting the motor so low i can easily get the barrels off in the frame , which is lucky as this motor had lots of problems

the motor had a bad rumble / rattle from the transmission so i had to take it out and investigate , turns out one of the output shaft bearings was worn out so i replaced it, stuck it back in and it still had a noisy rumble ,so i took the clutch out just to run it without the trans turning and it had a noisy crank as well , i got this motor as a supposedly running example , ye it ran but i decieded to strip it to see what else was wrong , the rings were so thin its a wonder it ran at all , on closer inspection they had a T shaped cross section , now i've never seen rings wear out like this so rather than rebuild the motor i had a word with a mate who runs a breakers , just so happens he had a bike for breaking goin cheap , yet another gpz ! but had to be broken and not returned to the road , ideal !!
